Technical programs at Southern Illinois University are authorized to award a form of non-traditional credit to students based upon their past experiences.

Also referred to as 259 credit, Occupational Education Credit is a designation for credit granted for past occupational educational experiences related to the student's educational objectives in their chosen program. Credit will be established by program evaluation. This credit may be applied only to the technical or career electives requirement of the degree, unless otherwise determined by the program chair.

To request 259 credit, speak with your Academic Advisor or Program Coordinator, who will complete the Certificate of Non-Traditional Credit on your behalf.
